Dr. Deng joins Emory from the University of Florida Shands Cancer Center where he was an assistant professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine.
Dr. Deng’s areas of research interest are focused on three major cancer-related fields: The mechanism of apoptosis and development of new anti-cancer drugs by targeting apoptotic mechanisms; DNA repair and genetic instability; and tumor invasion and metastasis.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Deng will be joining Emory’s Radiation Oncology team and the Emory Winship Cancer Institute,” says Walter Curran, MD, chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology and chief medical officer of the Emory Winship Cancer Institute. “Dr. Deng is widely published with more than 40 papers accepted in peer-reviewed journals and significant research funding from the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute among others. We are looking forward to the positive impact Dr. Deng will have on our strong team studying tobacco-related malignancies such as lung cancer and head and neck cancer.”
Dr. Deng is actively involved in grant reviews for NIH and the Department of Defense. He also is a grant reviewer and receives research funds from the Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute. Based in Miami, Florida, FAMRI’s mission is to sponsor scientific and medical research for the early detection, prevention, treatment and cure of diseases and medical conditions caused from exposure to tobacco smoke.
