| Dr. Godette & Emory University Hospital Midtown Deliver Rapid Arc Therapy |
|
In the 2009 summer issue of Emory Health magazine, Dr. Karen Godette and the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University Hospital Midtown are featured in the article by Rhonda Mullen entitled “A Rapid ARC for Recovery.” RapidArc is a volumetric arc therapy that delivers a precisely sculpted 3D dose distribution with a single 360-degree rotation of the linear accelerator gantry. Together with precise imaging and technology that allows variation of the radiation beam's strength, RapidArc can help doctors avoid delicate organs close to a tumor. Emory is the first site in Georgia to offer RapidArc, with three systems at Emory University Hospital and at Emory University Hospital Midtown in midtown Atlanta. The first patient was treated in October 2008. Treatments that once took five to 10 minutes can be finished in less than two minutes.
This article describes the experience by a Midtown patient, Linwood Holeman, receiving Rapid Arc radiation therapy at Emory University Hospital Midtown, overseen by radiation oncologist Karen Godette. Please click on this link below to read the article at Emory Health website:
