Clinical Overview of Department
The Department of Radiation Oncology operates two facilities in Atlanta, both of which are adjacent to hospitals that are part of the Emory Healthcare System. The Clifton Road campus is adjacent to Emory University Hospital and Egleston Children’s Hospital. The second facility is adjacent to Crawford Long Hospital. In addition, our physicians practice at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and the Edward C. Loughlin Radiation Oncology Center of Grady Memorial Hospital.
All radiation oncologists in the department are board certified or are in the process of obtaining board certification by the American Board of Radiology. Members of the staff also have active appointments with the Emory University School of Medicine.
The department's ancillary staff, including the medical physicists, radiation therapists and radiation oncology nurses, all maintain credentials through their individual certifying agencies.

The Department of Radiation Oncology was formed in November 1991. Dr. Lawrence W. Davis was named chairman of the department at that time. Prior to that, the faculty were members of the Department of Radiology in the School of Medicine, and the clinical section was part of The Winship Cancer Center of The Emory Clinic.
Presently there are four divisions of the Department of Radiation Oncology:
- Division of Clinical Affairs
- Division of Cancer Biology
- Division of Medical Physics
- Division of Computational Research and Informatics
The faculty, including Radiation Oncologists and Physicists, staff four clinical institutions in the Atlanta area. These include:
- The Emory Clinic (Main/Clifton Road Campus)
- The Emory Clinic at Crawford W. Long Hospital
- Veterans Administration Medical Center
- The Edward C. Loughlin, Jr., Radiation Oncology Center of Grady Memorial Hospital

The Department of Radiation Oncology of the Emory University School of Medicine is committed to excellence in clinical care, research and academics. Through the leadership of our faculty and collaboration with other institutions and departments within Emory, we hope to advance the science of radiation oncology -- thus improving outcomes for future patients. Your support can help to fund new technologies and laboratory research.
